The University of Delaware hosted a kick-off press event for the NOAA MDP FY19 research grant “Risk from Microplastics Exposure to Blue Crab Larvae in Delaware Bay and Coastal Shelf” at the Hugh R. Sharp Campus in Lewes, Delaware. The event was attended by University of Delaware students, faculty, and local news channel (ABC4). Speakers for the event included University of Delaware’s Dean Atekwana and Mark Moline, Delaware Sea Grant Chris Hauser, NOAA MDP Christy Kehoe, and Delaware Senator Tom Carper.

The purpose of the event was to highlight the new research grant and its importance to furthering microplastic research and our understanding of its impacts on an economically important species. The University of Delaware team also took the speakers on a tour of the R/V Joanne Daiber that has been used in collecting water samples for microplastics.
