The summit was part two of a three-part webinar series focused on hurricane readiness during a pandemic. This second installment focused on risks and best practices for NOS personnel, facilities, and infrastructure during this year’s unique hurricane season.

The Summit was kicked off by the NOS Deputy Assistant Administrator, Steve Thur; the Office of Response and Restoration Director, Scott Lundgren; and Director of the Disaster Response Center, Charlie Henry. Together, they helped set the tone by highlighting essential facets of this year’s hurricane season, including challenges and limitations that NOS  faces for facilities/infrastructure, personnel, and resources as we enter into the 2020 Hurricane Season. The preparedness summit also highlighted  best practices for mitigating risk to NOAA and NOAA partner facilities, personnel, and resources from hurricanes amid the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Included were presentations from the National Hurricane Center (NHS), the U.S. Public Health Service, General Services Administration, and others, including representatives from other NOS program offices. Presenters shared ways to implement best practices for risk management as NOS and its partners prepare for the hurricane season.

The Summit concluded with closing remarks from OR&R's DPP Chief, Kate Wheelock, reinforcing NOS commitment to preparing for the challenges of this year's unique hurricane season.
