OR&R’s Disaster Preparedness Program Develops COOP Working Group for National Ocean Service
AUGUST 24, 2020 — In today’s environment, the need for comprehensive continuity plans is vital. Organizations and agencies must continue to perform essential functions and provide critical services, even when normal operations are disrupted.
To meet this growing need, OR&R’s Disaster Preparedness Program (DPP) has developed a COOP, which stands for Continuity of Operations Planning, working group for NOAA’s National Ocean Service (NOS).
The NOS COOP Working Group is comprised of 11 representatives from across NOS. The working group will support and promote the development of continuity plans, policies, and procedures. This working group will ensure NOS maintains a viable and effective continuity capability through coordinated planning, exchange of information, and management techniques. The NOS COOP working group will build off information and directives from the NOAA COOP working group to ensure consistency.
While we can’t always prevent emergencies, we can be as prepared as possible. To do this, we use COOP as a versatile tool that helps agencies work through disasters.
