OR&R Publishes Job Aids for Use of Uncrewed Aircraft Systems in Hurricane and Oil Spill Response

OCTOBER 4, 2021 ─ A collaboration between NOAA OR&R’s Emergency Response Division, the Office of Atmospheric Research, and the Office of Marine and Aviation Operations has resulted in two new job aids for oil spill and hurricane response—the Uncrewed Aircraft Systems Oil Spill Response Job and the Uncrewed Aircraft Systems Hurricane Response Job Aid.

The new job aids provide application-specific guidance for effectively using Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS) to collect data in support of certain emergency and disaster response missions. These comprehensive guides help responders develop and execute the most efficient UAS missions in response environments while ensuring compliance with existing NOAA policies.  The Job Aids include detailed steps for planning flight operations, with suggested flight patterns and flight altitudes, to post-flight data processing and management.

Electronic versions can be accessed from the Job Aids page of the OR&R website.
