OR&R Lecture Series: Dr. Michel Boufadel Speaks on Oil Droplet Formation and Transport
JUNE 8, 2020 — Oil slicks form, break apart in waves and turbulence and reform again. Oil droplets move through the water column at the surface or rise from the ocean floor as a result of well blowouts.
Dr. Michel Boufadel, a professor at the New Jersey Institute of Technology and highly regarded oil spill modeler and researcher, discussed his work on droplet formation and transport on Thursday’s OR&R lecture series, YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW. More than 200 participants from across the U.S. and Canada listened, watched and asked questions of Professor Boufadel. His work will help responders and scientists to better understand the fate and behavior of oil droplets and their role in environmental damage following a major oil release.
Please join us next week when Dr. Jacqui Michel, arguably the “First Lady” of oil spill response science and longtime member of NOAA Scientific Support Team, discusses her work on Sunken Oil Mats.
