New Marine Debris Exhibit Debuts at Isle Royale National Park
NOV. 4, 2024 — A new marine debris exhibit, made possible with funding from the NOAA Marine Debris Program, debuted this summer at Isle Royale National Park in Michigan. The exhibit, open to the public in the Rock Harbor Auditorium, is curated with locally-sourced marine debris from Lake Superior, provided in part from cleanups conducted by Superior Watershed Partnership and Land Conservancy.
Exhibit visitors can explore items ranging from a nearly intact row boat to a curio cabinet of colorful microplastics. Built-in educational panels aboard the iconic Ranger III ferry also expose patrons traveling to Isle Royale to the issue of marine debris and previews of the exhibit.
Like all marine debris art exhibits brought to life through the National Park Service and the NOAA Marine Debris Program partnership, this one is informative, interactive, and thought-provoking. Visitors leave the island with a sense of how they can always be a part of the solution, whether recreating in nature or back at home.
