NOAA Participates in the U.S - Taiwan Coast Guard Marine Environmental Response Group Symposium
SEPT. 16, 2024 — On September 4, NOAA Scientific Support Coordinator for the Pacific Islands, Ruth Yender, participated in the 2024 U.S.-Taiwan Coast Guard Marine Environmental Response Group Online Symposium Program. The objective of the symposium was to deepen the cooperation between Taiwan and the U.S. in marine environmental response by providing an opportunity for dialogue and enhancing understanding of each other.
Yender presented on NOAA’s technical assistance role in oil spill responses in the U.S. Other presenters included staff from the Coastal Environment Resources Group of the National Cheng Kung University Laboratory, Marine Pollution Response Consultancy of the Ocean Conservation Administration (OCA), Southern Taiwan Response Consultation Center, U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Office of Marine Environmental Response Policy, and USCG Pacific Strike Team.
The symposium was sponsored by the Taiwan OCA, Taiwan Coast Guard Administration, and USCG Indo-Pacific Marine Environmental Response Regional Activities Center and was coordinated by OCA’s International Marine Pollution Training and Domestic Oil Pollution Training Program.
