Upcoming Training Opportunities at OR&R
JAN. 30, 2023 — The Office of Response and Restoration is gearing up for a busy year of training! We are excited to be back in-person, with our classic and most popular Science of Oil Spills (SOS) classes being offered in three locations across the country this year:
- SOS class, Mobile, Alabama: March 20-24, application period has closed.
- SOS class, Portland, Oregon: July 11-15, application period open until March 31.
- SOS class, Gloucester, Massachusetts: Sept. 11-15, application will open Feb. 27.
We are also excited to provide both virtual and in-person course offerings for the following:
- NOAA specific ICS 300 class: Virtual, Jan. 30-Feb. 2.
- Science of Chemical Releases (SOCR) class: Virtual, Feb. 13-17.
- SOCR class, Jacksonville, Florida: May 22-26, application now open.
- NOAA-specific ICS 300 class: Virtual, June 5-8.
Additionally, we are planning to provide a third virtual regional Resource Advisor course for Florida/the Caribbean this summer (dates TBD), and continue to host our You Don’t Know What You Don’t Know lecture series on the third Thursday of each month. Our scientific support coordinators located regionally across the country are also planning to host Shoreline Cleanup Assessment Technique (SCAT) courses with their U.S. Coast Guard districts.
Can’t attend a live training? OR&R also has job aids and on-demand trainings to help you prepare for disasters. Our Aerial Observations of Oil Spills course is always available online. And our ERMA® (Environmental Response Management Application) team recently completed a series of videos that are available in the ERMA help menu to improve your skills in using ERMA.
As always, there is no cost for attending any of the trainings that we provide, but you must cover your own travel expenses. However, please understand that many of our classes have high demand and are not filled on a first-come, first-served basis. We try to diversify the participant composition to accommodate need, ensure a variety of perspectives and experiences, and enrich the class for the benefit of all participants.
