Our colleague at the Washington State Department of Ecology recently let us know that all presentations from that workshop were recorded and are now offered on their Oil Spills 101.wa.gov website, which is used for registering oil spill volunteers, including oiled wildlife volunteers and those interested in the Vessel of Opportunity Program. The website is also used to help inform and educate the public on how planning for oil and hazardous incidents occurs in the Pacific Northwest through the Northwest Area Contingency Plan.

The numerous presentations making up the Workshop focused on the unique risks posed to some of the region’s marine mammals; the various stages of a marine mammal response, including the initial wildlife assessment, reconnaissance and tracking, deterrence, capture, stabilization, and rehabilitation; and the new wildlife regulations recently adopted in Washington State. Presentations were given by leading wildlife experts and state and federal agency representatives. 

This sharing of video recordings means that—even if you couldn’t attend the workshop—you can now listen to all the presentations at your convenience. Most are 15-30 minutes in length. Also available is the 90-minute Q&A session.
