This settlement, valued over $45 million, is significant in terms of liability and proposed benefit to trust resources on the river. This summer, Vigor and Exxon commenced with construction of a 2.7 acre restoration project of new, off-channel marsh, intertidal, and riparian habitat on their Harbor Island property. This complex construction project requires major demolition of pier and upland structures and piling removal at what has been a working shipyard facility. The project will be completed in summer, 2023. NOAA and Trustees also toured the Port of Seattle's construction of the Duwamish People's Park and Habitat Restoration project, a 14 acre project at the former T117 Early Action Superfund cleanup site. This project will create significant off-channel habitat for juvenile Chinook and other aquatic resources. The Port and Trustees developed a credit agreement where the Port may use or sell restoration credits to satisfy NRDA liability on the river. Construction will be completed in 2022.
