OR&R Celebrates Completion of 2010-2020 Hawai’i Marine Debris Action Plan
March 15, 2021 — On March 2, Scott Lundgren, Director of the Office of Response and Restoration (OR&R), provided congratulatory remarks during the plenary kick-off of the 2021 Hawai‘i Marine Debris Action Plan workshop.
Organized by the OR&R Marine Debris Program, the plenary celebrated the completion of the 2010-2020 Hawai‘i Marine Debris Action Plan, the first and longest marine debris action plan created. Action plan partners are diverse and include representation from federal, state, and local governments, nongovernmental organizations, academia, and the private sector.
Scott's remarks described OR&R and the Marine Debris Program as a whole, and highlighted how the development and continuation of the Hawai‘i Marine Debris Action Plan supports OR&R’s mission. He also highlighted how OR&R works with coastal communities to address critical hazards, including with communities in Hawai‘i.
The workshop was well-attended by stakeholders and also included remarks from Congressman Ed Case, Congressman Kaiali‘i Kahele, Senator Brian Schatz, and Marine Debris Program Director Nancy Wallace.
