OR&R Discusses Free Speech and Hate Speech
FEBRUARY 10, 2020 — On Jan. 23, the OR&R Diversity and Inclusion Committee hosted an event discussing the First Amendment, free speech, and hate speech.
The First Amendment protects our right to free speech and even hate speech. However, that freedom can result in many controversial and potentially painful interactions. OR&R attendees had an animated discussion on the topic, including whether the U.S. needs laws that protect from hate speech--similar to Canada and many European countries--or if free speech is worth protecting regardless of the discomfort it can create.
Join the D&I Committee at our next event on office morale on Thursday, February 13, and catch up on any events you missed using the Diversity Events Calendar.
