Marine Debris Program Director Speaks at French Embassy

NOVEMBER 12, 2019 — On November 5, Nancy Wallace, Director of the NOAA Marine Debris Program, spoke on a discussion panel at La Maison Française, the French Embassy in Washington, D.C.

As part of the 2019 Films Across Borders: Stories of Water series, the French Embassy and French Ameri-Can Climate Talks screened Oceans, The Mystery of the Missing Plastic, a documentary by filmmaker Vincent Perazio. The screening was followed by a panel discussion moderated by Laura Parker, National Geographic Senior Staff Writer. Nancy Wallace and Ika Paul-Pont, a researcher in marine ecotoxicology at CNRS (French National Center for Scientific Research), discussed the issue of plastic marine debris and answered questions from the audience.

Wallace and Paul-Pont discussed the efforts of individuals, industry, and government to address marine debris, and Wallace highlighted the actions of the federal government, including the NOAA Marine Debris Program. In the spirit of the event, the following reception was plastic free!
