Southeast and Caribbean NOAA Disaster Resilience Workshop
JUNE 3, 2019 — The Southeast and Caribbean NOAA Disaster Resilience Workshop was held May 14-16 at the Office for Coastal Management-Charleston.
The workshop was the third workshop this year and part of a larger multi-year plan to improve NOAA’s capability in planning for, responding to, and recovering from disasters in the region. The workshop consisted of NOAA staff and partners focused on recovery operations following a major hurricane. Participants, including representatives from National Weather Service, National Ocean Service (NOS), National Marine Fisheries Service, National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service, and three NOS/Office for Coastal Management partners (Georgia and South Carolina Coastal Programs), learned each other’s capabilities and areas for improvement within the disaster cycle. Workshop participants were also able to test and provide feedback on NOAA’s “Guide to Integrated NOAA Disaster Resilience in the Southeast and Caribbean.”
The workshop was organized by NOAA's Southeast and Caribbean Regional Collaboration Team and led by NOAA's Disaster Preparedness Program.
