NOAA Provides Guyana With First SCAT, ESI, and Responding to Oiled Wildlife Training
APRIL 22, 2022 – In order to meet the need for effective management during a potential oil spill, the U.S. Department of State partnered with the U.S. Coast Guard to provide oil spill response training to Guyana’s Civil Defense Commission and its interagency partners in support of Guyana’s activation and evaluation of its first National Oil Spill Contingency Plan.
OR&R's Emergency Response Division provided training on three specific topics: Shoreline Cleanup Assessment Technique, Environmental Sensitivity Index maps, and Responding to Oiled Wildlife.
In March 2022, NOAA hosted a workshop with Guyana’s Civil Defense Commission and the Guyana Defense Force Coast Guard and coordinated "Responding to Oiled Wildlife" training through the NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service on March 28, 2022.
OR&R also provided a trajectory analysis to Guyana for the field portion of their national-level oil spill response exercise. This collaboration added to these environmental initiatives and Guyana’s stewardship of its natural resources.
