NOAA Marine Debris Program Proudly Presents 2022 Accomplishments
JAN. 30, 2023 —On Jan. 26, 2023, the NOAA Marine Debris Program, within the Office of Response and Restoration, released its 2022 Accomplishments Report.
The report highlights key achievements by the program and its partners during the 2022 fiscal year, with a focus on the program’s six pillars: prevention, removal, research, monitoring and detection, response, and coordination. Among other efforts, the program implemented grant programs to prevent and remove marine debris across North America, worked with partners to prepare for storms and remove marine debris caused by natural disasters, and supported international efforts to address marine debris.
The report also includes highlights of efforts in collaboration across the Office of Response and Restoration, including a paid internship program for undergraduate students at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and disaster preparedness training for coastal managers in the Gulf of Mexico.
