The workshop was facilitated by the Coastal Response Research Center and brought together a diverse group of participants from different line and staff offices representing key operational functions within NOAA. The participants focused on the themes of long term response and recovery, improving communications, and coordination and capabilities for emergency response. Outcomes of the two-day workshop included recommendations for: developing training materials for both deployed staff and their managers/supervisors to support emergency response work, holding a workshop to improve the understanding of roles across NOAA to inform effective crisis communications, and to improve coordination among responders and with the people who support them (supervisors, logistics, administrative, finance, etc.) to identify common training needs, solve problems, and share resources. The DPP will use the recommendations generated in this workshop to further develop and deliver NOAA Regional Preparedness Training to address the priority issues.
