The session brought together regional scientists to highlight recent advancements in marine debris research on potential sources of marine debris, the impacts debris has in the Great Lakes, as well as projects which highlight effectiveness of local or regional solutions to the issue. The session was also co-chaired by partners at Environment and Climate Change Canada.

The Marine Debris Program also worked with the University of Western Ontario to co-host a Great Lakes Research Collaboration webinar on May 25. This webinar is part of the 2020-2025 Great Lakes Marine Debris Action Plan. Four projects and project ideas were presented, and the webinar also provided researchers the opportunity to identify collaboration and partnership opportunities and strategize on project funding.
