Tanya is starting her two-year fellowship remotely but will be joining the NOS office in Oakland. Tanya's fellowship is focused on helping the MDP and the California Ocean Protection Council implement the California Ocean Litter Strategy and advancing other regional priorities. 

Born and raised in Hawaiʻi on the island of Oʻahu, Tanya just finished her Master's Degree at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa quantifying the environmental impacts of Hawaiʻi's food supply and how an increase in local food production could affect local, distant, and global environments. Simultaneously, her interests in waste reduction and plastic pollution led her to a permanent volunteer position with a local non-profit, Sustainable Coastlines Hawaiʻi, where for the past 5 years Tanya has dedicated her spare time to facilitating large scale beach clean ups and leading community education and outreach throughout the state of Hawaiʻi.
