Marine Debris Program Presents at Workshop on Marine Debris Monitoring in Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Region
APRIL 4, 2022 – On March 24, the Marine Debris Program's Monitoring Coordinator Hillary Burgess presented virtually at a "Workshop on Capacity Building on Marine Debris Monitoring by Using Innovative Technologies in the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Region" hosted by the APEC Oceans and Fisheries Working Group and the Ocean Affairs Council of Chinese Taipei.
Hillary spoke about the Marine Debris Monitoring and Assessment Project (MDMAP) and participated in a panel entitled "Quantification of Marine Debris: Practice of Monitoring and Modeling." She spoke alongside representatives from other monitoring initiatives around the world, and highlighted the ways the MDMAP data are used as well as recent updates to the project.
Approximately 350 people attended the workshop, including researchers, scholars, policymakers, the private sector, and the general public, from Chinese Taipei, Chile, France, Republic of Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, and Viet Nam, among others. A forthcoming report will summarize results from the workshop.
