Marine Debris Program Hosts Virtual 2021 Oregon Marine Debris Action Plan Update Workshop
NOVEMBER 15, 2021 ─ On November 8 and 9, the OR&R Director Scott Lundgren, Marine Debris Program Pacific Northwest Regional Coordinator Andrew Mason, Marine Debris Monitoring Coordinator Hillary Burgess, and California Sea Grant Extension Fellow Tanya Torres presented at the virtual 2021 Oregon Marine Debris Action Plan (ORMDAP) update workshop. A prerecorded address to the marine debris community was also provided by Oregon's 1st District Representative Suzanne Bonomici.
The day and a half workshop brought together over 34 attendees from Oregon and Pacific Northwest regional entities working on marine debris, including state and federal agencies, tribes, non-profit organizations, academia, and other groups. Participants provided updates to the community on their progress toward the goals, strategies, and actions within the ORMDAP. Participants also identified further opportunities for coordination, discussed current and emerging marine debris topics, and highlighted solutions to marine debris prevention and reduction.
Support for the workshop was provided by thirteen members of the Marine Debris Program team, with significant unsolicited positive feedback about the facilitation and overall value that the workshop had for the local community
The results of the workshop will be shared with all participants while ongoing communications with workshop participants and stakeholders regarding the publication of an updated ORMDAP will continue over the next few months.
