Marine Debris Program Director Speaks at NASA’s Goddard Engineering Colloquium Series

DECEMBER 14, 2020 — On December 7, Nancy Wallace, Director of the Marine Debris Program (MDP), presented at NASA’s Goddard Engineering Colloquium Series on the topic of remote sensing technologies for detection of marine debris.

Each spring and fall, the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, presents a series of colloquia on a wide range of engineering as well as non-engineering topics. Over 120 people virtually attended Nancy’s presentation, where she shared the latest research on technologies to help track and remove marine debris.

Nancy discussed recent remote and aerial detection efforts using satellite, manned aircraft, and unmanned aerial systems, and shared information on the MDP’s ongoing collaboration with NASA to evaluate new data sources and emerging post-processing techniques for marine debris detection and assessment.
