This document is the result of a productive and collaborative effort between the Marine Debris Program and regional partners, including representatives from governments, tribes, nonprofits, academia, and the private sector. First published in 2017, Oregon’s Action Plan will be revised every two years and re-evaluated at the end of six years. Today the Marine Debris Program and its partners are developing and implementing action plans like Oregon’s across the United States.

The purpose of the six-year Action Plan is to facilitate and track collaborative and effective actions that prevent and reduce marine debris in Oregon. It serves as a coordinating tool by identifying partners’ shared goals, strategies to achieve those goals, and corresponding actions to ensure strategy success.

The Marine Debris Program solicited stakeholder input to this Action Plan update through a workshop attended by 20 partner organizations. Partners volunteered for a total of 82 actions, both ongoing and new. The Program will support partners’ actions by tracking progress, identifying gaps and potential solutions, and sharing relevant news and resources.
