Marine Debris Program Co-Hosts California Ocean Litter Strategy Webinar
JULY 13, 2020 — On June 24- 25, the Marine Debris Program along with the California Ocean Protection Council, hosted the bi-annual California Ocean Litter Strategy (OLS) Workshop.
The workshop is an opportunity for the OLS partner organizations to come together and evaluate progress made thus far. The event, which had over 120 participants, was held virtually in webinar format and consisted of two plenary sessions plus six concurrent breakout sessions for each of the Ocean Litter Strategy Goals. Keynote speakers were Dr. Mark Starr from California Dept. of Public Health, Baani Behniwal from Californians Against Waste, and Asma Mahdi from Better World Group.
The breakout sessions elicited valuable feedback from partners which will be used to fuel the direction of the remainder of the Ocean Litter Strategy. On a scale of 1-5 (5 being greatest), participants ranked progress of the goals to date at an average of 3. Substantial progress has been made just in the first two years of the six-year plan and the OLS team can’t wait to see what the next four years have in store!
