Disaster Preparedness Program Participates in the 68th Annual IAEM Conference
NOVEMBER 23, 2020 — Last week, members of the Disaster Preparedness Program (DPP) participated in the 68th annual International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) Annual Conference, which was held for the first time as a virtual event.
While maintaining most of the bells and whistles of an in-person event, conference attendees had access to more content than in previous years. Recordings of every session were made available to participants which allows for later viewing.
This year, NOAA was represented at the virtual conference by staff from the National Ocean Service (NOS), the National Weather Service (NWS), the National Environmental Satellite Data Information Service (NESDIS), the Office for Atmospheric Research (OAR), the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), as well as representatives from NOAA Communications and External Affairs. NOAA attendees gave several presentations during the conference covering a wide variety of preparedness topics and tools.
The conference allowed participants to gain valuable insight into the broad field of emergency management, hear lessons learned from officials in wildfire and hurricane-stricken areas, and make connections across NOAA with local emergency managers and key decision-makers. Katie Krushinski and Alyson Finn attended the conference for NOAA’s Disaster Preparedness Program.
