This year NOAA staff from National Ocean Service, National Marine Fisheries Service, Public Affairs, National Environmental Satellite Data Information Services, and the Homeland Security Program Office increased the NOAA presence at the conference, which has been predominantly attended by National Weather Service in the past. NOAA participants gave several presentations during the conference covering a wide variety of preparedness topics and tools. Disaster Preparedness Chief, Kate Wheelock provided a demonstration of NOAA’s Environmental Response Management Application or ERMA, which is used to provide an operational picture of a disaster event.

The conference allowed participants to gain valuable insight into the broad field of emergency management, hear lessons learned from officials in hurricane-stricken areas, and make connections across NOAA with local emergency managers and key decision-makers. Katie Krushinski, Alyson Finn and Kate Wheelock attended the conference for NOAA’s Disaster Preparedness Program.
