Dam Failures in Michigan

MAY 25, 2020 — A significant rainfall event that started on Sunday, May 17, has caused major flooding in the mid-Michigan area in the Saginaw River and ultimately resulted in the failures of the Edenville Dam and the Sanford Dam in Midland County.

On May 20, the U.S. Coast Guard G Sector Detroit contacted the NOAA Scientific Support Coordinator. NOAA is providing USCG with information management support and Common Operational Picture (COP) via ERMA, including relaying National Weather Service products. An Incident layer is being developed and communications continue between OR&R Spatial Data Branch and the Sector.
