NOAA Provides Marine Debris Education Resources to Galveston Educators
FEB. 6, 2023 — Last month, staff from NOAA Marine Debris Program, within the Office of Response and Restoration, presented to a group of educators participating in a Gulf of Mexico Bay Watershed Education and Training project.
The Marine Debris Program team shared background information about NOAA and marine debris, as well as a range of resources available for educators in their presenation on Jan. 25. They were joined by staff from additional project partners, including NOAA’s Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuaries, the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network, and Artist Boat.
Throughout this two-year project, middle school educators at Galveston Independent School District will be creating student-driven and locally relevant curricula and professional development, culminating in educational action projects. Educators involved in this project work in subjects across the school curriculum, including science, social studies, and English/language arts.
