This event is hosted by the Arctic Domain Awareness Center (ADAC), a U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology (S&T) Center of Excellence in Maritime Research, hosted by the University of Alaska. The ultimate objective of this year’s activity is to create the basis for a report outlining research questions for a funded solicitation to help address the USCG’s most important Arctic maritime research needs. The scenario for the exercise was a severe cyclone storm in the Bering Sea region in concurrence with a major earthquake in Anchorage. Research and development topics focused on technology development for communication systems gaps, particularly with remote populations with compromised infrastructure, maritime domain awareness, latent detection, adverse weather response, and predicting, detecting and assessing crisis response actions. Participants included academia, industry, State of Alaska, and NOAA scientists from National Weather Service, Office of Response and Restoration, and NOAA's Senior Advisor for the Arctic.
