ARD staff and NOAA collaborators chaired a session titled, “Natural Resource Damage Assessment: Injury determination in multi-contaminant, multi-stressor systems.” The session was an opportunity to share scientific advances in injury assessment at urban waste sites, including ARD’s recent work evaluating injuries to chinook salmon, resident fish, and benthic invertebrates. Other presentations included new tools and approaches for conducting injury assessment in disadvantaged communities that are disproportionately impacted by pollution. Session chairs, presenters, and attendees discussed scientific challenges for injury assessment in heavily impacted environments with long histories of contamination. The session highlighted scientific advances that address these challenges. Other parts of the scientific program at SETAC included sessions, platforms, and posters relevant to many different aspects of OR&R’s response, assessment, and restoration work.
